On August 24, 1968, Simon & Garfunkel played at the Honolulu International Center [HIC] Arena
In a newspaper article (in Concord Monitor of 1977) I read that Simon and Garfunkel gave a free concert in Concord. Here’s a bit of that history.

The free concert was organised by The Timothy and Abigail B. Walker Lecture Fund with the thought
“that the popular music of today is valid music and should be heard“.
The concert was initially planned at the City Auditorium. The distribution of free tickets started in January. The requests for tickects must have been huge, so the concert was shifted to the Capitol Theatre which could house 1400 people. Not enough to house everybody it seemed.

Here’s the review by Hank Nichols in the Concord Monitor of February 20, 1967:

and a letter to the newspaper from a reader:

1977-01-07 Buffalo, NY, Kleinhans Music Hall, with Michael Tilson Thomas
1977-01-08 Buffalo, NY, Kleinhans Music Hall, with Michael Tilson Thomas

In 1977 Art Grafunkel played with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Sounds Section and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Michael Tilson Thomas, during the Philharmonic Pops.
The show of January 7th received a very good review in the Buffalo News:

Muscle Shoals Rhythm Sounds Section
Barry Beckett – piano
Pete Carr – guitar
David Hood – bass
Roger Hawkins – percussion
The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Michael Tilson Thomas

With thanks to Roy for the heads-up about this concert.

As you all know finding information about the concerts Simon & Garfunkel gave is one of the main focusses of this site.
Early days are difficult to find information about. In 1963 months before they would record their lp ” Wednesday Morning 3 A.M.” for Columbia Records they hang around Greenwich Village in New York City and sang in clubs, like The Cafe Wha or Folk City. But when and whereexactly? And now at long last we have one date.

Recently David Brown’s “Talking Greenwich Village” was published.
And Kane and Garr are mentioned in it. They opened on October 22 in 1963 for Clarence ” Tom ” Ashelye and the Irish Ramblers at Folk City. One of the songs they sang was ” Bleecker Street”.
The book also brings a lot of info about Paul Simon’s connection with others like the Roche Sisters.
In general it is, besides Simon & Garfunkel, a very interesting book and shares lot of (new) info about America’s Bohemian Musical Capital.

While we couldn’t get tickets anymore for his Amsterdam concert, friends and me went to Belgium’s Brussel. We saw an amazing show of the One-trick Pony tour. With a great backing band (with 4 horn players during “Have a good time” and “Late in the evening”). Paul Simon went through all the hits and his new album “One-trick Pony”. When the show was over he came back on stage and jumped on Richard Tee’s electric piano and thanked us all.
And exactly today, 44 years later, I received this poster of the show of November 2nd 1980.
