Tickets for all performances go on sale 10am on Monday, July 7th (complete itinerary follows).

As long-time friends, the concept for the “On Stage Together” tour originated at the Robin Hood Foundation benefit in 2013 where they performed together for the first time. Both artists, who are known for exploring world rhythms, have pushed the boundaries of popular music and continue to speak to generations of fans.

As exemplified on their North American tour earlier this year, the concerts in Australia and New Zealand will feature two of music’s most iconic singer/songwriters blending their voices and their bands while performing their best-known songs both together and apart.

In what was one of the most highly-praised North American concert tours of 2014, media and fans alike were unanimous in their reviews.

“One of the most surprising, daring, and rewarding double bills…” – Hollywood Reporter

“A marvelous meeting of musical minds, the stuff of future legend.” – Orange County Register

“…great melding of music by two of the world’s finest songwriters and singers.” – American Songwriter

“We are thrilled to be bringing the tour to Australia and New Zealand,” said Arthur Fogel, President – Global Touring and Chairman – Global Music, Live Nation. “The run in North America this year was an incredible success on all levels. These two legendary talents delivered an unforgettable night of music.”

1969 November 1st: Toledo or Witchita ?

Recently James Townsend commented on the 1969-page that according to the liner notes of  ‘Simon & Garfunkel / Live 1969’ they played in Toledo on November 1st of the same year.

I have an ad from a newspaper for the November 1st concert in Witchita:

S&G 19691101

And allthough Columbia Legacy states that it was in Toledo (OH) where they recorded the live-version of ‘Old Friends / Bookends’ so far I have never seen an ad for that show.  But I do have it listed in the 1968 section…..Another mystery? Not really. It was discussed also here where a reader mentioned that he went to the November 1st show, on a friday, in Toledo. There seems to have been a review in the Toledo Blade on November 6 of that show.

Toldeo 1968

1964 – New shows added to the Folk Club list

While I was in London earlier this week I was able to visit the British Library and was allowed to see some MicroFilm with Melody Makers from 1964.

The Melody Maker magazine listed many shows the British Folk Club scene in the Folk Forum.

And this resulted in some more firm and new dates of Paul Simon’s appearences in the London folkclub-scene:

1964-06-13 Hempstead, The Enterprise
1964-06-14 London, The Roundhouse
1964-07-02 Starting Gate (Wood Green)
1964-08-24 London, Tinkers Club
1964-09-01 London, “folk at the Flamingo’

The September 1st show was listed as a kind of ‘festival’ with various folk-singers, besides Paul Simon, and groups like the Ian Campbell Group.

The 1964 list shows still a lot of possible performances in clubs which still have not been confirmed. If any reader has info about these, well  that would be great to have !

1965: Paul Simon in Denmark and Sweden

19651113 Kopenhagen paul simon paramount It was a well known fact that Paul Simon played in Kopenhagen at the end of 1965. But for me the exact information where was unknown. But today Ole Holmgaard sent us the long awaited information: Paul played at the Paramount Club in Copenhagen on November 13 in 1965 and we are able to show you the advertisement (see on the left). Stig and Paul also played together in London’s  ‘Les Cousins’ But not only did he visit Denmark, he also visited Sweden. It was there probably where he met Swedis folksinger Stig  Moller and recorded – also in  November 1965 – a song with Stig. Paul Simon played accompanying guitar on the song Min By (My Town). You can listen to it on Youtube. Paul also toured with a folk group named ‘Cy, Maia & Robert’ and also played some gigs in the mainland off Denmark, called Jutland, with them. Ole Holgaard is doing research on the singer Stig Moller. If any of you has any information about Stig Moller, please let me know and I will forward it to Ole.
