1966: Simon & Garfunkel on Canadian TV

When ‘ The sound of silence’  was still high up in the charts, early 1966, Simon & Garfunkel were invited to a Canadian TV Show called ‘ Let’s sing out’.

According to the site: ‘ Originating from university campuses all across Canada, Let’s Sing Out featured audience participation as students joined Canadian and American guest stars in familiar and popular folk songs. The weekly half-hour series was seen on Fridays throughout the CTV network, beginning October 11, 1963. Host for the show was Winnipeg-born Oscar Brand.  The series aired on CTV until it was picked up by the CBC in the fall of 1966 and ran for one more season.’

Simon and Garfunkel were seen in two episodes:

1966-02-17 – Let’s sing out – Toronto, University College, University of Toronto, Simon and Garfunkel, Sharon Trostin and Steve Jorgunsen
1966-03-24 – Let’s sing out – Toronto, University College, University of Toronto, Simon and Garfunkel, Mark Spoelstra and Zaharia join Oscar Brand.

See YouTube for some very nice footage (but I am not sure from which ‘ Let’s sing out’  episodes these come, maybe the March episode had material which was left of the first). Enjoy them while you can!

S&G 29 april 2010 Vancouver Show to be postponed ?

Looks like Vancouver has to wait a bit longer to see Simon & Garfunkel perform. Scheduled for April 29th in Vancouver’s  General Motors Place, the duo probably has to postpone their performance. Art Garfunkel is suffering throat problems and hardly can sing. The New Orleans Heritag Jazz Festival from last friday already showed that Art had difficulties with his voice.

Announcements will be made in the due course of wednesday April 28th.
