1966: Did S&G tour with a backing band ??

We all know that Simon & Garfunkel had a backing band on their tour in the US in 1969. The Wrecking Crew or

Cyrkle Sundazed Frontmembers of that wonderful session band were backing during large parts of the shows. But now I have two source that tell that already in 1966 they had a backing with them on stage. This band consisted of members of the group The Cyrkle. This group had a major hit with Paul Simon’s song ‘Red Rubber Ball’.

The first source is the booklet of the cd ‘The Cyrkle – Red Rubber Ball’ (Sundazed SC 11108). It says:”through Barry Kornfeld’s connections, Dawes found himself playing bass in the first road group assembled to back a fledgling folk-rock duo called Simon & Garfunkel […] During this trip with Paul and Artie […]”(page 3) And  “In the period between Beatlesque gigs and signing with

GuitarPlayer1970Columbia, Tom Dawes soaked in the warm reception that folk-rock received in the many Simon &  Garfunkel concerts” (page 4)

The second source is the magazine “Guitar Player” of March 1970 (Volume 4, nr 2). The article here is about the 1969 concerts and wites: “For the first time in four years Simon and Garfunkel had musical background support”(page 21).

But now the question is: who were backing Simon & Garfunkel in 1966? We know that Tom Dawes was one of them. The complete The Cyrkle?

If yuou have any information about this and willing to share that here, that would be great!
