1965 Paul Simon Tape on Auction

31180_8

PAUL SIMON LIVE RECORDING 1965. A cassette tape containing approx 39 minutes of a recording made of Paul Simon performing live at Brentwood Folk Club in the summer of 1965. Local radio broadcaster Dennis Rookard made the recording with the permission of Paul Simon, and later in his life made a copy to present to the current vendor on their 40th birthday.

The tracklist runs as follows:

Old Blue,
What Did You Learn at School Today,
George Crumpet,
Daddy’s Taking Us To The Zoo Tomorrow,
Leaves That Are Green,
You Can Tell The World,
Bingo,
Children,
Go Where I Send Thee,
Man of Constant Sorrow,
Autumn to May,
The Sound of Silence.

The recording captures well the atmosphere of the busy club, and is of decent quality considering the technical limitations. The cassette is sold with a hand signed letter sent circa 1996 from Dennis Rookard to the current vendor detailing his gift of the cassette.

It is on auction at a starting price of 700 GBP.

  1. Poor old Dennis Rookard who honoured an agreement of never publishing would have been mortified to know that his copy given with the same condition of not being made published is now broken
Knowing Dennis am sure the transfer won’t be that wonderful. He may have the last laugh from up there in the sky

    1. Well he could have known what could happen when you give people rarities. The accompanying letter does not mention it.

Anyway, I certainly would like to hear those songs.

  2. I already perceived this auction was going on last week. Of course I am digging out all Paul Simon stuff and I have found the following link for you. I did not share with anyone else because I wanted this to share with you. The tape is running fro 10 minutes. It is really worth listening to. Anyway the most important song about Paul Simon`s girlfriend Kathy Chitty is to be listened to.
I hope you all will enjoy this stuff. It has been recorded by BBCEssex in 2014:

      3. Last but not least: I also have a Paul Simon Facebook-account. Just a few friends but this does not beother me at all you know.

I am very aware of my Dutch history in the past starting when the Dutch went on their ship for exploring the world. I am very aware of the dark site of my Dutch history. This is why I pay a special attention to two particular musicians who are playing – now on occassion – In Paul Simon`s band. Last time was in August on the West Coast of the USA and also in Hawaii Mai Paul Simons new partial ‘homeland’.

Their names are the long lasting member Bakithi Kumalo playing with Paul Simon from the time he spent is South Africa recording GRACELAND!

The second one is BIODUN KUTI. He is the ‘re placement’ of the far to young pasted away great West African guitarist Vincent Nfguini.

Biodun Kuti is the new member in Paul Simon`s band and he is an exellent multitalented guitarist and music player on other instruments. Coming also form West Africa NIGERIA

It does me feel HUMBLE for being a descendant of a former colonial country to have these to giants among my friends.

If you wanna see what I am posting (honestly you are the first I am telling these things because I am accustomed to be a modest person):

Unfortunately I was forced to use the name of my ex-husband but it is DEFINITELT ME:

Pls check out I am posting on this page each day:
