50 years ago, on January 26th in 1970, Simon & Garfunkel’s epic album ‘Bridge over troubled water‘ was released by Columbia Records.

There’s no news from Columbia Records if there will be a special release of this album, besides the one that was released some 10 years ago.

Here on this blog many postings will be published with information about this album, the single-45rpm’s that were taken from it, etc etc.

BOTW Stereo Label A Side
Demo version in Stereo

BOTW Mono Label B Side
Demo version in Mono

And ofcourse the many album-versions that followed.

Anyway, another good reason to play this wonderful album again.

  1. Today, Legacy Recordings released a four-track digital EP, Live At Carnegie Hall 1969, from S&G’s two-night stand. Live At Carnegie Hall 1969 includes four freshly-minted songs which would appear on their final studio album Bridge Over Troubled Water, released in 50 years ago this week: “The Boxer,” “So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright,” “Song For The Asking,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” All are from the November 27 show except “So Long…” which is from the 28th. All four tracks are previously unreleased.

    1. Thanks for the info. Song Long, Frank Wright was recorded during the show of November 27th, the others during the 28th of November performance.
Hopefully there will be another live album out with complete shows.

  3. This article was posted by the BBC on 24 January 2020:

    TITLE:

‘The forgotten political roots of Bridge over Troubled Water – BBC’:

Fifty years old this month, Simon and Garfunkel’s soaring anthem became one of the defining songs of the 1970s and beyond. But its saccharine reputation belies its protest-song origins, writes Dorian Lynskey.

  5. ‘Why It Mattered: Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’’

Considered in a high tension society at these day in the year 1969.

Included in this article are the opinions giving by Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon as well. The creator of this entire song.

I duly have to apology Art Garfunkel for using ‘his kind of language’

Also Paul Simon was asked regarding his creation of this song; the changes he made in this song and the aftermath.
Paul Simon doest no and never did using ‘the language’ Art Garfunkel is used to.
