Hello,
I’ve discovered a new date in December 1965 at a “Teen Young Adult Club” called the Red Rooster, located in Indiana, Pennsylvania. That is correct, the town in named Indiana (birthplace of actor Jimmy Stewart.) Simon and Garfunkel were advertized to appear on Sunday 26 December.
(Indiana, PA Gazette Sat 18 Dec 1965, page 7)
We were visiting my family in Latrobe, PA, and my older cousin took me to the Simon & Garfunkel concert at the Red Rooster. It had just turned 14, and it was my first “live” concert. I had no idea who they were, or what was going on, but I do remember thinking that “The Sounds of Silence” sounded pretty cool.
Thank you for your comment. That was at the start of their S&G-period. Nice of you to share this moment with us.
I attended several concerts there. It was a dance club for just teens. It had a stage where all the top performers of that time performed. It was always packed.
Hello, can you please tell about which club this comment is?
Went to the Red Rooster that night and heard “The Sound of Silence” and fell in love with their sound. Saw them after the concert at a hamburger stand eating their late dinner.
Thanks for your reply. That most certainly was an early concert when The Sounds of Silence had become a hit.
I remember seeing Paul Simon at the North Miami Beach Auditorium in the mid sixties. Paul played alone because Garfunkle didn’t show up!
I cannot find any information for a Simon & Garfunkel show in Florida. They seem to have appeared on a TV Show in Miami, TV Ten Station, in the “Rick Shaw Show”. Do you remember if it was a Simon & Garfunkel-concert? Were there other artists playing? Thanks for the info so far.
