Simon & Garfunkel 1980-89

1980-10-30 Paris, France, Theatre de Paris

  • This is not a Simon & Garfunkel concert. Paul Simon was touring Europe to promote his album and movie ‘One-trick Pony’.  Art joined Paul on stage for a couple of songs:
    Scarborough Fair
    The sound of silence

1981-09-19  New York City US Central Park

  • Originally intended to be a Paul Simon show, but in the course of 1981 turned into a gigantic and succesful Simon & Garfunkel show. Some 300.000 were in the park. The show was broadcasted on TV and released (heavily edited!) on Geffen Records.

  1. Living in Paris as a college student, I was lucky enough to attend the 1980 show. I cannot begin to describe the electricity when Art walked out on stage. Think I may still have the ticket stub if you’re interested.

    1. It would be great to be able to have the ticket-stub here too. I have an audience recording (terrible sound) of this show, with Art’s appearance…when he walked on stage the crowd went wild so it seems.

  2. I was lucky to be at the Nice concert in 1983, great to see them though there was a little bit of tension during the gig. Art stopped singing at one point to say to someone in audience “Jesus Christ you hit that guy!” .. never forget that moment!

  3. hi, i still have the ticket stub, with its advert for “Think too much” on Geffen records advertised on the back but i cant remember the date being different from the 18th printed on it. I was on holiday down in Nice for 2 weeks and it was a very long time ago!
i couldnt exactly see who started it,but a couple of people had an argument and it turned a bit physical. After Art interrupted the song they were singing,Paul appeared to calm him down and they carried on.

  4. I have good memories from one of the three (!) Stockholm concerts in 1982. It was the one at Råsunda Stadium June 6. That same day the young Swedish tennis player Mats Wilander had his breakthrough by winning the French Open. I vividly remember Simon & Garfunkel congratulating Wilander from the stage.

  5. I was also at the Nice concert. We had flown to Nice that day with no hotel reservation. Managed to find somewhere and whilst having a look around the city noticed a poster advertising the concert. We mentioned it later to the receptionist at our hotel who, unbelievably, was already going to the concert and offered us a lift. We were able to get tickets on the night. Had to pinch myself – it was so unexpected! Unforgettable.

    1. I was at this concert also. I was in the Navy, my ship had pulled into Toulon, France the day before, my friends and I saw a poster Simon Et Garfunkel Nice. We jumped on the train to Nice the next day, went to the concert, had an amazing time. When the concert was over, there were no more trains running, so we took a Taxi back to Toulon, I’m thinking it was about 70 miles away? Was a great unexpected surprise to be able to see Simon and Garfunkel in Nice!

  6. A long term fan, I remember the excitement of the Central Park reunion in 1981, never imagining that they would tour. But as fate would have it I was made redundant at my job in Scotland and moved to London in the December to find work. I was right on the doorstep when they announced the 1982 tour in the April which included Wembley Stadium on June 19th. Wonderful memories. Please reply if anyone has film or photos of this concert. I know there are quite a few pro photos online but it’s more the audience perspective I’m hoping for.

      1. Hi. I have two poor audience recordings of Wembley. One is presently on YouTube and the other must have been recorded very close to where I was standing as I can actually hear myself shout out to Paul Simon when he comments, after The Boxer, on wonderful days in England. It would be very interesting if you had a third recording.
