Ladysmith Black Mambazo came to America’s attention following their performances on Paul Simon’s album, “Graceland.” The ensemble’s new album is called “Two Worlds, One Heart.” Frontman Joseph Shabalala talks to Terry about his early life and rise to fame.
In the meantime I listened to this entire – very moving – interview. He is referring to the
first performance in the ‘Graceland-tour’.
The start of this tour was in The Netherland (you can hear Joseph Shalabala talking about
‘Holland’ ‘and all white people in the Ahoy Hall in Rotterdam he had never seen before’
Being a ‘Dutchie’ and with a ‘white skin’I am not even able to imagine what this experience
must have been to all South African Muscians who were involved in these concert that were given in my country.
I will continue my contribution with a review made by the world famous magazine
‘Rolling Stone’.

Pls. check out the following review and the ‘resistance’ to Paul Simon for performing in
the Netherlands. Indeed The Netherlands were a lot of so called
‘Acrtiongroups aganst ‘Apartheid’ with the leading female acitivist Conny Braam. Despite of all this resistance the Paul Simon, his South African Musicians and the a cappele singing
group Lady Smith Black Mambazo made in in Nijmegen The Netherlands.
Fortunately not all Dutch people were so rigid in stuborn in their opinions at that time.

It is a kind ‘of review’ but also ‘a history’ of struggle too. The opposites turned out to be
wrong. Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1990.
